Best remembered as the fourth of Hustler publisher Larry Flynt's numerous wives, she served as co-publisher of her husband's famous and scandalous magazine. Tragically, she became addicted to drugs in the early 1980s and shortly thereafter developed AIDS.
She had a traumatic childhood: her father orchestrated a murder-suicide in which he shot both her mother and her grandfather. At the age of seventeen, while employed as an exotic dancer, she met her future husband, Larry Flynt.
Suffering from advanced AIDS, she died at the age of thirty-three after overdosing on prescription drugs and subsequently drowning in the bathtub of the mansion she shared with her husband.
She grew up with a brother named Richard and sisters named Debbie, Sherry, and Marsha. After their father murdered their mother and killed himself, she and her siblings were placed in an Ohio orphanage.
Troubled singer and actress Courtney Love received a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of Althea Flynt in the 1996 movie The People vs. Larry Flynt.
