Perhaps most notable for his services to Apple Inc. as the company's VP of Marketing and board director, Bill also served as the CEO for Claris and GO Corporation. He was a chairman of the board for both Columbia University and Intuit Inc.

He played football from 1959 to 1961 while attending Columbia University, graduating from the school with a bachelor's degree in economics. He was named to the All-Ivy Team in his senior year. He later got his master's degree in education from Columbia University's Teachers College.

He served as the head coach of Columbia's football team between 1974 and 1979 after filling an assistant position at Boston College for six years.

Family Life

His father was a school official. He was born in Homestead, Pennsylvania, and lost his life to cancer while living in Palo Alto, California. His first wife was Roberta Spagnola.
