British novelist who has risen to fame for her published works, including her 2016 romance novel The Kindness. She has also written lyrics for her husband David Gilmour as a solo artist and for his group Pink Floyd, including for more than half of their 1994 album The Division Bell.

She first joined the publishing industry before turning to writing her own novels. She was homeless for a spell prior to meeting her husband.

She was named a fellow to the Royal Society of Literature in 2018. Her 1999 anthology of short stories Lying in Bed were originally written for BBC 4.
