From 2004 until 2005, this leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo party served as fourth Prime Minister of Kosovo. Earlier in his life, he led the Kosovo Liberation Army; he left office as Prime Minister after being tried for war crimes.
After serving in the Yugoslav People's Army, he enrolled in the law program at the University of Pristina and subsequently received a graduate business degree from the American University of Kosovo.
During the 1990s, he lived in Switzerland and worked a number of odd jobs. He returned to his native Kosovo in 1998 and fought in the Kosovo War.
He and his eight siblings were raised in the village of Glodane, Socialist Republic of Serbia (present-day Kosovo). His first marriage resulted in a son named Shkelzen; his later marriage, to broadcast journalist Anita Haradinaj, resulted in three children.
He and his Serbian contemporary Boris Tadic both led eastern European countries during the first decade of the 21st Century.
