Canadian curler nicknamed "Schmirler the Curler" who three World Curling Championships during her hugely successful career. She captained the Canadian national team to an Olympic gold medal in 1998, the first year that women's curling was recognized by the Winter Olympics, and later became a respected commentator for CBC Sports.
She was born and raised in Biggar, Saskatchewan. In addition to curling, she was an avid volleyball, badminton, and softball player.
Following her death from cancer at the age of 36, she was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame and became the first posthumous recipient of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.
She was survived by her husband, Shannon, and two daughters, Sara and Jenna.
She and Colleen Jones both captained Canada to victory at the World Curling Championships.
