Architect, sculptor, and structural engineer whose early work consisted mostly of bridges and railway stations. Two of his most famous designs were the Montjuic Communications Tower in Barcelona, Spain, and the Allen Lambert Galleria in Toronto, Canada.
He did his undergraduate work at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and his graduate work at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. His doctoral thesis was titled "On the Foldability of Space Frames" and was finshed around 1981.
His roughly $4-billion World Trade Center Transportation Hub was a futuristic train station that was created for the site of New York City's reconstructed World Trade Center.
